Episode 1.11 3 Angels: Prologue

There is nothing like it…night time, rain and within the confines of a cemetery. Nothing like it. The slayer was in Vornhauss Cemetery, one of the oldest in the city and just 2 miles north of where her parents lived. Here were buried the earliest German settlers to new Providence and three of the leading German families, Easchenbach, Orsitsch and Ritscher had massive imposing crypts atop of each were 30ft tall white stone statues of angels.

Rows of grave stones radiated out from the protestant church shrouded in darkness. Beside the main gate of the cemetery was the caretakers residence, light illuminated through curtains. The caretaker was Klaus Bormann, an elderly man who had worked here for nearly 40 years. The professor had indicated that in his workshop was a map of the cemetery and recently unusual incidences had occurred which had come to the professor’s attention…from Bormann himself most likely. Recently a young man had been buried here, dying in a road accident and the following evening the grave had been dug up and the coffin removed. And this had happened twice before. Bormann had never experienced this desecration before and was at a loss to explain what was going on. The benefactors of the cemetery were very concerned as well, keeping the incidences quiet as to not to cause concern among the German community. The young man whose coffin had been stolen was a student from AU, and belonged to Bauhauss House, an exclusive German only fraternity, with most of the residents having grown up in the neighbourhood surrounding the cemetery. Last evening Bormann had informed that another student had been buried a son of one of the leading German families, Karl Easchenbach. Moreover the previous two graves that had been removed earlier in the year were also students from the same fraternity.

“Something is going on within the fraternity.” The professor had told the Slayer. “Four students dying in the last 6 months…all after secretive retreats they have had at a lodge north of the city. Few are permitted entry to Bauhauss and they include the cleaners. Two of them have noted that when they go in they are always escorted and there is evidence of pictures and other items been removed before they arrive. Of course we have fraternities with their own secret societies…and some are known to us already. What secrets this fraternity has…we do not know. I want you to check out the cemetery area tonight and then perhaps the retreat. There is no one there and your friends might be able to help you. Considering their were no autopsy’s done, we have no idea of how the students died…except the last one, from a car crash, returning from the last retreat. It seems the others died also after previous retreats at this…Sonnedecker Lodge.”

Episode 1.11 act 1

So a possible case of body snatchers. I wonder why…should I intervene if they come tonight or perhaps just follow them and see what is behind this. Taking the dead is not a vampire thing either…they prefer the living to become their own. She moved around the edge of the cemetery, surrounded by a stone wall perhaps 6 feet high. Behind the church she found a pedestrian gate and it was locked with a padlock that on second glance was positioned so that it could be opened from the other side. Through the wrought iron gate she could see a small car park and narrow paved road through a wooded park that surrounded the cemetery. Just off the road she saw two cars parked.

Jennifer continues walking around keeping to the shadows which was not difficult given it was night and there was very little lighting. She stops after hearing voices and sees beyond two cedar trees lights and approaches warily. The Slayer sees eight young men, some of whom she recognises from university lectures. They were speaking quietly in German and two held lamps while another three were digging up the fresh plot of the grave…which only had a wooden cross as its marker for the moment. The earth is moved easily and piled up around the grave as the Slayer watches on. After some time, the coffin is reached and using rope with grappling hooks it is lifted out by four of them the others watching on, chanting in German. They are chanting as the coffin is lifted from the grave and once lifted out the four holding it up is replaced by the second four and they move in the Slayers direction towards the pedestrian gate. The Slayer melts into the shadows and watch as they pass by and two rush on ahead and unlock the gate and the others pass through to the carpark beyond…none of them speaking a word throughout. Minutes later Jennifer hears the cars starting up and moving away down the narrow road.

Jennifer sprints to the car and attempts to follow them. Given her knowledge of the local area she is able to find both vehicles moving north. Jennifer uses speed dial and tells the scoobies where they are heading…what has happened and to let the Professor know. The two cars leave the northern outskirts and the road is clear ahead. Jennifer remembers it was around here that Rhys and Jenna disappeared…a road accident too. 5 miles on the cars pull off the road and into a narrow gravel track that disappears into wooded hills. Jennifer calls the scoobies and asks if they know where the track leads too.
“Yes…hold on.” Ryan replies. “Here we go…the track is marked private road and nothing indicates on the official maps of where it leads to.”
“I would say the lodge perhaps.” Gabriel says.
“So the lodge is not marked on the map then.” Jennifer asks.
“I don’t think so…the oldest map goes back 140 or so years and the road is marked there as well.” Ryan says. “Ah…here it is marked as a forestry road…goes in about two miles to a forestry camp. That was back then though. Oh by the way not much on the web on Bauhauss but came up with a couple of interesting links about the Thule Society and Teutonic Knights.”

Jennifer says she is going to park the car off the road further on and walk up the track. And that is what she does, keeping a steady pace as the road climbs and wounds it ways into the hills until she sees another turnoff where the tracks are fresh and following that comes across a wooden gate beyond which she can see what looks to be a large two storey log cabin.

Episode 1.11 act 2

Jennifer goes around the perimeter of the fence line and texts Ryan to let him know where she is. Reaching a corner she jumps up grabbing the top of the fence and climbs over jumping into a courtyard area, dimly lit by lights from the veranda of the lodge.
Within is a courtyard and there are 6 cars parked including two limousines and beside them are the drivers smoking cigarettes and quietly talking. Moments later the main door to the lodge opens and three men dressed in black suits step out followed by a young woman, wearing a scarlet robe and her head concealed by a cowl. The drivers douse their cigarettes and one opens the back door of the first limousine into which the woman steps into. The three men enter the second limousine and moments later both vehicles leave the courtyard the gates opening electronically for them. The courtyard is empty with 4 cars parked outside.

Jennifer goes around to the back of the lodge and sees a fire escape and climbs onto it and is able with some difficulty to climb onto the roof. Much of the roof is line with solar panels but there are skylights but Jennifer is unable to see anything through them. She forces one open and once done she pauses and listens…hearing nothing within. She drops down and lands on a carpeted floor and here a tinkling sound when she lands. She moves off to one side and bumps against something hard and wooden. She pauses and waits for her eyesight to adjust…and from what she can see she is in a bedroom. Having just bumped against the end of an ornate 4 poster bed and there is no one in it. She texts Ryan and says she is inside then moves to the doorway beneath which she can see light coming through. She listens and hears some voices that fade away after a few moments. She opens the door quietly and sees a lighted corridor richly carpeted, with doors and further down stairs leading down at the centre point of the corridor. She makes her way down the corridor and reaches the stairs and goes down the stairs to the second level. She listens and hearing nothing looks around seeing another hallway on either side with doorways along the walls. Jennifer climbs down the last level and sees a antechamber area before the large door that leads out and here she sees a number of young men conversing cheerfully as 4 of them are leaving, shaking hands and departing, leaving another four remaining, one of whom gives orders in German and they enter a room opposite.
